Background

Fortress Technology has grown rapidly to become a world leader in the design, manufacture, and sales of metal detector systems for manufacturing facilities. Fortress systems have been installed and are operating in more than 45 countries.
Fortress’ website was dated and reflected past branding that had recently been redesigned.

Information architecture was cumbersome and did not adequately reflect their product structure. In addition, the Company had grown with two international locations in Brazil and Great Britain that required separate sites.

Strategy

A New Navigation Model

Jar designed a new navigation system around three distinct information architecture models: an industry or role-based model, an application based model and a solutions-based model. Users can begin with their industry to see a filtered list of products that would commonly be used for applications in their industry. Or, if they are a more educated user they can begin directly with applications and drill down to specific products. In addition to providing a clear path through the website, this approach gives users a clear overview of Fortresses product architecture and product breadth.

Multisite Structure

Fortress required sites that would mirror their main corporate site in other territories but with subtle yet distinct differences based on each distributor’s product line. Jar built a multisite framework on WordPress that would allow us to manage each site individually through a single content management system.

An Emphasis on Support

One of Fortresses’ differentiators is its ability to design and service custom solutions with knowledgeable support and sales staff. In order to emphasize the human support function each page clearly features E-mail and phone contact information, as well as prompts to take the next step in the process whether that be to get few hot information or contact a local distributor. A comprehensive support section underlines their customer service commitment with Whitepapers, fax, and prompts to contact a support representative.
